Traditional Program

The Traditional program is our community-based program that recruits, screens, trains, and matches qualified volunteers with children, ages 6-14 from single parent homes or extended family homes, in a one-to-one relationship.  The mentors in these relationships are asked to make at least a one-year commitment to their Little, spending six to eight hours a month with the child.  Traditional matches engage in a variety of activities together, many sponsored by the agency itself.  The emphasis in these matches is on encouraging adults to share their skills, interests, and talents with a child for the development of positive life skills.  Simply put, Big Brothers or Big Sisters are, foremost, friends to children.

Littles develop higher self-esteem and learn responsible productive behavior skills.  Statistics prove that kids improve school grades, peer and familial relationships, and self-image.
